Tony DeZuniga was hired to draw an issue of Uncanny X-men in 1978 early in John Byrne's run after the X-men's encounter with Guardian of Alpha Flight and their encounter with Magneto.  With this issue, Tony became the very first Filipino to ever work on this ultra popular title.

It won't be until January of 1986 that another Filipino, Whilce Portacio will work again in the title, inking Rick Leonardi on Uncanny X-men 201.

Whilce Portacio will ink a few more issues, and he himself took over drawing the title in October 1991. He will be followed by other Filipinos like Leinil Francis Yu, Edgar Tadeo, Gerry Alanguilan, and Philip Tan.
